Design Build Process
At Elliott Sage Design & Construction we offer a wide array of architectural design and building services. By living and working in a small region we have been able to stay connected to the homes we build and to our clients.
Good Beginnings
Our relationship with our clients begins well before the construction stage and extends past the completion of their home. It is definitely a collaborative effort. Most projects begin with a client meeting and Peter Sage, our president. Peter introduces prospective clients to our values and principles, our projects, our methods and our people. By getting to know our clients and by talking with them we gain an understanding of who they are and what they are looking for.
Design Build Process
Designing and building homes is a complex process, so by getting to know our clients we can establish clear design criteria and priorities. We gather information, express ideas and find solutions to fit our client’s needs. Once clients have met with Peter and these project parameters have been established, we can then put the basic design information and the client’s proposed budget into place and see if the two roughly fit together. There is no point in designing a beautiful home if it does not satisfy the needs of the clients and their budget.
Good design and a well managed project can lower construction costs. Now our senior designer facilitates each project through the design phase working closely with the clients, engineers and consultants. It is very much a team effort with everyone playing an important role in the ultimate design. Here is where we start to weave the fabric of our client’s new home and create wonderful design concepts.
We now present our design concepts, plans and elevations and also create a site plan to factor in the orientation of the house. We put the design narrative into motion which gives us something to build on. At this point we again seek input and direction from our clients.
Our design technicians begin to work preparing specifications and working drawings that can be used to fine tune the budget and to facilitate building permits.
Once plans, specifications, budgets and permits are in place the building phase begins, and our client is introduced to a key member of the team, the site supervisor who is dedicated to the actual building of their home. Our site supervisors are excellent communicators. They are always available to answer any questions and clarify aspects of the building process if need be. If clients are absent during the construction, weekly email updates with digital photos can be arranged to keep everyone in the loop. Our design team members also make site visits periodically during construction to make sure the design/build process is coming together as planned.
By the end of the design/build process we make sure we have done everything we say we are going to do. This inspires trust and respect from our clients. We want our clients to have a rewarding experience and enjoy their homes. Often our client relationships do not end once the client moves in. Many of our home owners choose Elliott Sage to manage their properties for them. After all, we know their house inside and out.
